“I am proud to be following in the footsteps of my grandfather Albert Dieffenbacher, who ran the company together with his cousin Gerhard from 1952 to 1985 in the third generation, and my uncle Axel Dieffenbacher, who was part of the management team from 1997 to 2012,” says Langer. “I am very much looking forward to my new role and, above all, to working even more closely with Christian, Lothar Fischer and Volker Kitzelmann on the Management Board.

” Volker Kitzelmann has held various positions at DIEFFENBACHER for more than 35 years. He started in January 1988 as Head of Controlling before taking over the management of the entire commercial department in 1993. Additionally, he became Head of the Wood business unit in 2005. In March 2016, Kitzelmann joined the Management Board as CFO and was responsible for the Finance and Controlling, Auditing, Legal and HR departments. In the new composition of the DIEFFENBACHER Management Board, Kitzelmann’s role will include, among other duties, overall responsibility for the Energy business unit, which was founded at the beginning of 2023.

“Lukas Langer and I have used the past three years to prepare for the handover of responsibility and my duties as CFO in the best possible way. During that time, I got to know and appreciate him very well, both personally and professionally. This makes me all the more happy to pass the baton to him,” says Kitzelmann about his successor as CFO, Lukas Langer.

“We are very fortunate that we have been able to fill the CFO position with a family member. I am delighted that two members of the Dieffenbacher family will now be involved in the management of our company,” explains CEO Christian Dieffenbacher. “We have a lot to thank Volker Kitzelmann for over the years. We are grateful that he will remain with us on the Management Board.”

Revolutionizing Mold-Making: The Smart Technology Behind Hydraulic Cylinders V450CP

Revolutionizing Mold-Making: The Smart Technology Behind Hydraulic Cylinders V450CP

In the world of industry, new technology is always changing how things get done. One cool example is the V450CP hydraulic cylinder, a nifty piece of tech that’s quietly making a big impact on how molds are created. Let’s take a closer look at what makes these cylinders tick and why mold makers love using them.

The secret sauce in the V450CP is its built-in thermoregulation technology. This fancy term simply means that the cylinder can control its temperature. This feature isn’t just a cool gimmick; it actually makes the whole process of making molds way easier. Instead of dealing with a bunch of complicated cooling systems, the V450CP does it all from the inside.
A real-world example from a mold maker helps us understand why this matters. Cooling a moving plug in traditional mold-making is like solving a puzzle with lots of pipes and bolts. These parts have to fit together just right, and they can’t mess with the cart body and cylinder. The V450CP changes the game by getting rid of the need for all these extra parts. It’s like solving a puzzle with fewer pieces, making the whole process much simpler.

The mold maker in our story points out a big benefit: less hassle when building the circuits. With the V450CP, connecting the cylinder and cart body is a breeze. You just need to make sure things line up correctly, and you’re good to go. No need to deal with a bunch of pipes and bolts. This means mold makers can focus on the important stuff, like making sure everything fits together right.
One of the best things about the V450CP, according to our mold-making expert, is the time it saves. Designing and making molds used to take a long time-about 7-8 hours. But with the V450CP, that time is slashed down to just 1 hour. Sure, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a game-changer. This time-saving isn’t just good for the mold maker; it means products can be made faster, and everyone’s happy.

The workshop where these molds are made also benefits from the V450CP. Because there are fewer parts to deal with, making and putting everything together takes a lot less time-around 15-16 hours less. That’s a big deal! It’s like finishing a job in less time, which is always a win in any workshop. Plus, the molds that come out of this process are smaller. That might not sound like a big deal, but it can save money on transportation and storage, making everything more efficient.
To sum it up, the V450CP hydraulic cylinder is like a superhero for mold makers. It has this cool temperature control thing that makes mold-making way simpler. Mold makers save time and effort, and workshops become more efficient. It’s a win-win for everyone, and it shows how smart technology can make a big difference in the industrial world.

SIG Foundation Wins First SAVE FOOD Project Competition and Plans Further Investment

SIG Foundation Wins First SAVE FOOD Project Competition and Plans Further Investment

With “Cartons for Good” the SIG Foundation leverages SIG’s know-how to reduce worldwide food losses and prevailed in the Project Competition organised by the SAVE FOOD Initiative. The project stands for the use of innovation and technology to solve one of the most pressing global problems.

The SAVE FOOD Initiative sponsors a member’s project with € 20,000. In line with their vision of curbing food waste and losses worldwide, the founding members have decided to make these funds available. The SAVE FOOD Project Competition promotes solutions that contribute to reducing the 1.3 billion tons of food being lost or wasted every year. Special emphasis is placed here on supporting the players in the processing, packaging and distribution stages of the supply chain; the aim is to help them fully exploit their potential for dealing with food sustainably and responsibly. The first edition of the SAVE FOOD Project Competition saw the SIG Foundation win with “Cartons for Good”. The project uses SIG filling technology to help people in developing countries turn their food into meals locally and extend their shelf life. The winner will be announced as part of pacprocess MEA to be held jointly with Food Africa in Cairo from 12 to 14 December 2023. Both trade fairs form part of the interpack alliance portfolio.

“The SAVE FOOD Initiative actively supports the processing and packaging industries in their key role combatting food waste and losses. The SIG Foundation shows impressively just what the industry can deliver in this respect,” says Bernd Jablonowski, Executive Director at Messe Düsseldorf and one of the SAVE FOOD initiators. “Here innovative technologies meet with local initiatives. The holistic approach ranging from the support of local agricultural businesses and the supply of meals for school children to the recycling of packaging is precisely what we seek to promote with our SAVE FOOD Competition.” The expert jury comprises members from the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), the WPO (World Packaging Organisation) and interpack/Messe Düsseldorf.Local support, global impact
For the “Cartons for Good” project the Swiss manufacturers of carton packaging and filling technology developed an innovative solution: a compact version of SIG’s industrial filling plants, which can also be transported to remote rural areas. Fruits and vegetables are processed into meals without any preservatives and filled into carton packaging. These then have a shelf life of up to nine months without refrigeration at ambient temperature. This proves a major benefit especially in regions where farmers often cannot sell their complete harvest and lack preservation possibilities.

Closed-loop sustainability
Farmers are paid for their surplus vegetables thereby receiving extra income. The preserved packaged food is then distributed to local schools enabling them to offer underprivileged children a hot meal daily. After consumption the packaging is collected at a local recycling plant. This ensures the materials are reused and fed back into the production cycle – a sustainable and eco-friendly solution. The pilot project in the Balia region in Bangladesh is already reaping success: in 2022 alone, some 20 tons of vegetables could be saved, 15 permanent jobs created, and 24,600 meals distributed to 180 school children. In addition, 3,000 cartons went to families and people hit by the severe flooding in Bangladesh.

Commitment in Egypt
At present, the SIG Foundation is planning to also roll out the “Cartons for Good” project to Egypt. 50 percent of the fruit and vegetables grown here are wasted. With prize money of € 20,000 a comprehensive study aims to find out where this project can make the biggest impact. A project shall then be developed locally – together with the local implementation partner, the Natural Resources & Climate Protection Foundation (NRCP).

High-Performance Stretch Wrap Films Improve Puncture Resistance for Better Product Protection

  • High puncture resistance
  •  Reduced material usage
  • Easy processability

Challenge:
Produce high-performance stretch wrap films for better product protection and safer transportation
Termoplasticos Antartida, a leading converter based in Argentina, wanted to create high-performance stretch wrap films that delivered better protection for sharp-edged products, like bricks, that are often transported on pallets.

“We needed to better protect items transported on pallets that possessed sharp edges. Bricks, in particular, were a problem,” said Pedro Cejas, Gerent de planta, Termoplasticos Antartida. “When the film is stretched around the pallet, the sharp corners of the bricks subject the film to tremendous stress often causing the film to puncture. A film with high puncture resistance can provide better product protection and make transportation safer.”

Ultimately, Termoplasticos Antartida wanted to meet the needs of Brand Owners and the value chain by creating a premium performance stretch wrap film that would enhance its brand reputation and lead to the acquisition of new customers.Solution:
Exceed  XP 8346 improves puncture resistance for less risk of stretch wrap film failure
Termoplasticos Antartida collaborated with ExxonMobil’s polyethylene business which is renowned for driving film innovation for high-performance packaging solutions through value chain collaboration. “After two years of development and testing, the new 7-layer stretch wrap film includes Exceed XP 8346 which improves puncture resistance compared to current market alternatives,” said Cejas. “The film is less liable to puncture for better protection and product containment.”

Results:
High performance stretch wrap films for product protection and safe transportation
Compared to Termoplasticos Antartidas’ previous formulation, ESTL FPT-750 tests demonstrated that on average the new stretch wrap film, including Exceed XP 8346 performance polyethylene, delivered:
• 24% increase in puncture resistance at maximum force
• 17% improvement in puncture displacement
• 71% increase in puncture energy
Tests at the end user indicate that the new stretch wrap film delivers better puncture performance than current market alternatives. It offers premium wrapping capability, while reducing material use  and enhancing pallet aesthetics. The film can also reduce the possibility of product returns and improve pallet transportation safety. “The collaboration with ExxonMobil has been such a success that it has helped us acquire new customers,” said Cejas. “We are now doing business with companies that we have never dealt with previously.
